I got this link from my French friend Jérome Lantz showing photographs of German soldiers (of the 10th corps) made in a Tours atelier in February and march 1871: link As I just visited a longer photoshop course I started to colorize them for an article and an internet publication. The first example shows a soldier of the Prussian infantry regiment no. 78:
The second example shows the artillery soldier of the field artillery regiment no. 10:
I'll give a note here right after having finished the internet presentation. Greetings from Berlin Markus Stein |

The idea of colorization came to me during the publication of my book "1870/71 in Colour", in which some very nice colorized images of the French computer artist Luc Heinrich had been added. Here's the link to this publication: link Greetings Markus Stein |

Excellent…a bit lighter shade of blue than I have been using, good to know. Thank you! |

Thank‘s for the nice comments; regarding the colour of the coat, please be aware that these were extremely worn at the end of the campaign in february 1871, so they look a bit „washed". I‘ve colorized an Officer, and his coat is much darker. Greetings Markus Stein |
