Of course it solely relates to US Army Practice and only the European and North African theatres at that. So there is nothing about the Navy Corpsman and the US Marines.

I think there was much confusion in the text between the guy with red crosses all over his helmet, who ran under fire to a fallen soldier and the staff at an advanced dressing station, who could offer some degree of resuscitation, at less personal risk. The former could offer analgesia and try to staunch haemorrhage, even maybe open a surgical airway. But the priority has always then been immediate evacuation and stretcher bearers hardly rate a mention here.
