Question on using Vallejo matt. I tried using some via brush and it came out gloss. Did I not shake it sufficiently or does it only work via airbrush?

I'm trying to Matt a very small area, the anti-glare parts of 1/600th aircraft.

If not Vallejo, another recommended option.

Not sure about Vallejo, but Mod Podge has matte and super matte. I found super matte and really, really love it.

Mod Podge is PVA (cow glue, etc.). What allows them to have different finishes is really quality control. The slightly different concentrations of materials are tightly controlled to guarantee a finish. From a regular bottle of PVA, you could get different finishes bottle to bottle.

I have some old (few years) big bottles of Mod Podge, and none has separated or gone bad otherwise. Also, it comes in little bottle, too.

That has happened to me. I just gave it a really good shake and it was fine. Also, using a stainless-steel ball is something I've started doing.

Please don't use "stainless steel" or metal agitator balls. The coating does come off of them eventually and you end up with rust in your paints.
Use 6mm glass balls you can get in bulk from Ebay/Etsy.

Also with Vallejo matte and gloss you really need to give it a good shaking. I have a vortex mixer to do so and I run it for about two mins.

Thank you all

Yep, shake the varnishes very well.

Ah, that is probably what is wrong with mine too. I'll shake it more.

I've been getting good results from Vallejo Ultra-Matt.
