I'd like to make some dutch/belgium infantry for Waterloo. Looking at mont saint jean site, it looks like the warlord Portugueses with stovepipes might work for the militia

And with Belgic for some line infantry.

Am I missing anything? Some line infantry have French hats and French packs, so would the militia have French packs too ?

Also, am I right that French bardin uniforms painted green and yellow will do for Nassau ?

Any advice welcome

Re. Nassau, it depends how picky you are. Nassau infantry wore a single row of buttons down the center, and the waistcoat was not exposed. Perry makes the figures in metal, including troops wearing the kolpack.

I'll echo the sentiment about "how picky are you?" and add on "what do you already have? If you're starting from scratch, I would strongly recommend going with the Perry metals for the whole bunch. Everything is correct*, so no need to do conversions or accept half-measures. The Nassau contingent in particular is small enough to justify purchasing dedicated models.

If, OTOH, you're sitting on a surplus of Portuguese and French that will otherwise go unused…

Thanks, yes I guess it is down to perfectionism. I have used all spare figures so will be purchasing new. but I prefer plastics. I have a mix of Perry victrix and warlord plastics with some dutch(French hats) and kgl lights in Perry metal. Plastics are much cheaper. How Picky, well they have to look right. If I do Nassau out of French will they look like Nassau or French painted green and yellow ?

I could always pickup an eBay sprue of each and try it I guess.

The Portuguese bodies are the only plastics with a single row of buttons down the front that I know of, and they look ideal for all sorts of conversions even Brunswick, if only the heads and packs could be bought separate.

Perhaps you could mix in some Perry command and grenadier in the kolpak to help create the illusion that they are all Nassau troops.

The Dutch used backpacks like those of the French. The Belgian Line hade a peculier pattern. white kalfskin spotted black or brown, less wide than the French pattern and with rounded top en bottom.

Some Nassau troops did have visible waistcoats. The 1st bataillon of the 2nd regiment still partly wore the uniform as in Spain (1811 model). The 1st regiment would have had the waistcoats re-introduced in the beginning of 1815.
