I am painting up some jeeps for the 1st Airborne Recce Squadron at Arnhem – 'Freddie Gough's Men'. I am trying to tie down the actual markings on the vehicles as opposed to what the kit instructions say. As far as I can make out, they almost certainly had subdued numbers on the bonnets, a '41' flash on the front bumper and a star on the side behind the driver. Anything else seems uncertain. Was there a number on the back? Was there a '41' flash on the rear and was the Pegasus divisional flash carried at all? Was there a bridge classification disc? Restored Jeeps and other modern illustrations show all these things but contemporary photos are not so clear and much is 'missing'. Can anyone give me the information or recommend a good source? Much appreciated. |
