Following up my tutorials about using Citadel Contrasts for Union coats and trousers, namely 'Stormfiend' (coats) and 'Nighthaunt Gloom' (trousers) I came across a wargaming blog of a gamer that captures the perfect shade of blue for Union blouses and coats.

'Jay's Wargaming Madness' is a superb blog showcasing Jay's various painting projects, games and tabletops.

Here are a few images of his Civil War Union paintjobs. I don't know what exact paint or paints he uses to do his Union blouses and coats, but it absolutely nails that faded, grayish blue with just a hint of green tint in some of the coats.

I searched though his webpages and found some photos where hs shows the pots he used for the Coats and Trousers (both Foundry Colors). Coats: Union Blue 111A Trousers: Union Trouser Blue 112A. Hope that helps.

Nice looking figures. For a change of pace: from my reenacting days I recall that old Yankee trousers faded to a distinctly greenish color. Don't know if that was from modern dyes or not but it would give some variety for veteran units.
