The Stars Wars: Battle of Hoth game is coming up as a summer release this year, and it's supposed to be a retail launch too (from Days Of Wonder). link
Could this be one of those gateway/cross-over board games for the younger set that plays and buys at the shops, and us older grogs (or maybe a ticket to punch for what it's worth)? |

Could be. "Come plat this Ancients game. It's like The Battle of Hoth, but with different figures." It would also be a short leap to Memoir '44, etc. |

Yes, looks very Memoir 44 ish. |

It's using Richard Borg's Commands & Colors system (he's listed as lead designer) – so that could be a draw for us older gamers (considering past C&C successes), and then now Stars Wars might interest younger age groups. This could be a 'cross-over' title for multiple ages (if they're willing to play back & forth). I've never been a Star Wars 'groupie', but I'd play this game because it's C&C-based, and with it's potential to resonate with younger gamers. (maybe a convention-draw/feature?, but certainly something we'll see being played at the local hobby shops) |

Pretty cool. I have mixed results with Commands and Colors. I liked Battle Cry a lot. Memoir '44 less so (I have a big box full, though). Ancients was okay. The fantasy version I didn't love (I have a big box full, though). I think I tried the WW1 game on steam. Have not tried Napoleonics. I have not determined why I like some and not others. I wish I could figure out why. I'll tell you one thing for sure, though. If Hoth succeeds you can implement any number of Star Wars battles in C&C, so if that's your thing set aside some money and shelf space. |

Richard Borg, the designer, discussed this at length at the recent Florida convention in April. He and his crew are always running events at the Kissimmee Florida shows in September and April. He stated that the publisher had the rights, currently to the name. It was easy for them to produce the game after using the framework for another of his systems. |

Andrew Walters, well, sounds like you're a C&C groupie……and quite a few of us are! ;) TimePortal, that's interesting. One thing that's intriguing, is this release lists for 2-4 players, with multiplayer not having been a feature of most of Borg's games – w/o needing expansions or via user-created mechanisms. Just 'catering' to a multiplayer experience out-of-the-box, could have fresh potential. |

Fly wire, actually almost all of his systems are over 2 players. At most of the demos at the Hurricon and Recon (Florida) shows there are at least four PER side. A center, left flank and right flank tactical commanders and an overall per side. He draws and issues a new card to the sector commander. The tactical sector player moves units and determines which card that he wants to play. |

I'm a big fan of the C&C games using miniatures. I believe they are nicely adaptable and hopefully given the popularity of Star Wars , may introduce some new players into the hobby. Memoir 44 and Battle Cry are attractive on their own but ideally a topic as widely popular as this will appeal to a wider audience. |

All of Borg's demo are with miniatures. Even during play testing he used mainly miniatures. A lot were 25mm but his travel demo set that he took to Historicon and Millenium in Austin during the 1990s for the Ancients were 15mm. |

McKinstry – glad to read what you wrote too….I think the 'Borg' (Hivemind) is strong! TP, I've tried to get his original ACW Miniaturist Edition rules – just thought that would be the purest way of play (but no avail) -

A lot of people get information from their website or from their Facebook page. |

Might help a little. Certainly can't hurt. My reading of the situation is that post-1914 and pre-1600 will continue to limp along, but any serious surge in horse & musket or colonial will require something which reaches outside of miniatures or even wargaming--a book, a film or a TV series. |

The game pieces look like they'd paint up well, too. |

Okay, that'll definitely take a bite at my wallet. Star Wars & C&C? Did I need to hear anything else? |

Parzival – :))) Oberlindes Sol LIC – and maybe some with just washes. (I can see those walkers getting some sooty dry pigments also) ;) Robert, we'll be counting on your project support too. :) We have a sci-fi convention that's been going strong for nearly a half-century here in our area, called Archon – where they dressed up in all the costumes you know……this Battle Of Hoth game would surely be a winner there! |
