I visit there (not a member) on a regular basis but have seen a marked reduction in the quality of threads and projects of late and also a large increase in ‘talkie' threads. Shame, as it used to be a place of almost constant inspiration. I'm assuming people have moved over to FB (not a member) to get reasonable recognition for their work and effort? |

I tried to sign up there twice several years ago and was not allowed in for whatever reason they choose to deny my participation. I never looked back. |

I am still on it. I can say I think it is still a good site. Great, quick search engine. Great eye candy for miniatures and games. |

"I tried to sign up there twice several years ago and was not allowed in for whatever reason they choose to deny my participation. I never looked back." That's not what I asked. |

I must say that I do find it somewhat 28mm-centric. Still some good painting inspiration, but certainly not how it used to be. Same can be said of here to be honest. Fora have their place, but the market is becoming increasingly crowded. Are members dying off? Are they migrating to smaller niche fora (think rules specic)? Or as you mentioned FB? I can understand FB, as you can effectively create a forum without the outlay, and without needing any knowledge of hosting/websites etc. I can also understand why smaller fora appeal too. Far too much tribalism and signal interference when there is a wider audience. Horses for courses, certainly. Fora still have their place amongst all the other options. Cue "is the time of the forum over?" discussion… and, no I don't think it is. |

I stopped by occasionally, and I am too overwhelmed by the sheer volume to be able to discern if anything is dropping off. That said, discussions are one of the main reasons that I go there. |

"Cue "is the time of the forum over?" discussion… and, no I don't think it is." I would agree. Project logs being the main reason for having fora. From what I can gather, FB doesn't really allow that as items get pushed off ‘the feed' with great rapidity. I am looking for first or even second hand experience of the original question. "Well…. Excuse me……" You are excused. |

I'm a member of LAF and use it mostly for information on rules or periods but that's infrequently. FB is probably best if you just want people to say what a good job you did on minis, games, terrain. I see lots of that on FB, usually few comments but a lot of likes. |

Personally I find LAF much better than here. There's more to interest me on there and it's better for european/ uk content. Also Tango isn't on LAF which is a massive plus. |
Old Contemptible | 30 May 2025 10:59 p.m. PST |
I am on LAF and it is a good forum. It is British centric and therefore 28mm centric. It focuses more on painting figures as to playing games with them. I post photos of my 15mm games and get no responses. I get more responses when I post photos of my 28mm games. It is easier to post photos on LAF than TMP. There are some other features not present here. |

I am on LAF also and quite enjoy it. A key plus for me is the absence of political discussion, and the curtailment of threads that include it. |

What Old Contemptible and Fred Mills said. Longtime LAF member here. I think it has changed since North Star assumed oversight, but it's still a solid place for information, to share battle reports, and get inspired. |

Yank here who is a regular on LAF. I find, and post, much more game content over there. One big reason is that I can simply upload photos. The other big reason is the active moderation to keep politics at bay. |
Prince Rupert of the Rhine | 31 May 2025 7:24 a.m. PST |
Yes I prefer LAF to here mostly because the moderators are on to anything off topic nipping it in the bud very quickly. Unlike TMP politics is also kept to a minimum. There are also a lot of good painters on LAF that I find inspirational. As others have said posting pictures and such like is much easier on LAF as opposed to TMP were anything more than a short text post is a real chore to complete. |
nnascati | 31 May 2025 10:08 a.m. PST |
I'll echo what Prince Rupert said. LAF is more focused and less political than TMP. And yes, much easier to post photos. |

It is way better than TMP. IMHO Fortunately there is no Tango :) |

I get more ideas from LAF than TMP unfortunately. It is a more more focused forum and relatively snark free. I support both of them. |

I think we jinxed it! Doing my usual rounds of TMP, LAF and BGG this morning, got a weird redirect message to a registry but no LAF. Steady on – more time for TMP and BGG. |
