"This year, among other things, I've set out to explore the mystery of Napoleonic tabletop rule sets. Okay, you're probably wondering, what exactly does that mean? Somehow, there isn't a single, brilliant, and widely used rule set for this era that appeals to all players equally. Even fads or rule hype, as is common in other eras, don't really exist for the Napoleonic Wars. Incidentally, I'm not talking about skirmish or group skirmish rule sets, nor about grand tactical systems from the Napoleonic era. My search is much more focused on so-called tactical systems for battles with a corps (or more) on each side. In this game size, one unit usually represents one regiment, and in infantry, sometimes just one battalion. These are therefore smaller battles or even just segments of a larger battle. Since I'm not just a tabletop gamer, but primarily a figure painter, the individual figures should be clearly visible in the game, and units should be clearly identifiable. The variety of uniforms in the Napoleonic Wars is one of the most fascinating aspects for figure painters. Another aspect is the depiction of the different formations, which also played a central role in the Napoleonic Wars. This is also the reason why I prefer to play tabletop games with 20 mm rather than 28 mm figures and am very reluctant to use 6 and 15 mm figures. For me, the 1/72 scale figure (often referred to as 20 mm in tabletop games) is the best compromise between appearance and playability…" UT

Very nice figures and scenery. Frank is a genius in my opinion. Best wishes, Chris |

Yes, but the point of the article is developing a system for analysing and comparing different sets of Napoleonic rules, not the artistic quality of the author's figures and terrain – beautiful though they may be. |

I understand that, but as a long time follower of Franks Figures and History blog I am still of the opinion that he is a genius both as a modeller and researcher. Best wishes, Chris |
