Apologies to those who dont use FB but it's the only viable option I've found, that is widely available, free, easy to use etc, I've also looked at multiple voting sites but I just can't manage that with a full time job.

I'm not on FB but I nominate – Egos of gaming ‘celebrities'

yarkshire gamer26 May 2025 2:50 a.m. PST

Are you classing me in that category lol

Cause I Ain't, I'm some bloke who does a Podcast that for some unknown reason loads of people listen too :-)

Not on FB, but indecisive / calculating players who slow the game down to a glacial crawl. Especially those that calculate exactly what they need to roll to succeed before rolling, and often for several different options. Then, of course when they do roll they roll so high or low the outcome is obvious without needing to check.

yarkshire gamer26 May 2025 5:27 a.m. PST

That one has been nominated Billy, on a par with those who take 2 hours to set up when you only have 3 hours for a game !

People who move 105 mm when the rules say 100mm.

People who move then move back again because they are still touching the unit.

Army lists. They encourage uber armies.

Unpainted figures in the field of play.

Players who don't share dice.

People who believe Newbury when they say Fast Play…..

My left sock26 May 2025 6:25 a.m. PST

The fact you thought my post was about you speaks volumes.

yarkshire gamer26 May 2025 7:24 a.m. PST

My Left Sock, are you Carly Simon ? Lol

Seriously though you have lost me, what's your problem ?

Who and what are you referring to ?

My left sock26 May 2025 8:08 a.m. PST

I have no problem, you asked for suggestions and I gave one.

Carly Simon is my mom's second cousin twice removed.

yarkshire gamer26 May 2025 9:16 a.m. PST

My Left Sock, if you think I'm a Wargames Celebrity you have a really low bar lol

Grattan54 Supporting Member of TMP26 May 2025 9:54 a.m. PST

Army Lists based on points

The use of cards in wargames

My left sock26 May 2025 10:08 a.m. PST

I was a limbo dancer in a former life.

My suggestion still stands but I'm going to assume you won't add it.

yarkshire gamer26 May 2025 10:11 a.m. PST

My Left Sock, I need some context, who are these Wargames Celebrities and what are examples of their egos ?

It's not something I've experienced. I can't add it if I don't understand it.

yarkshire gamer26 May 2025 10:12 a.m. PST

Grattan54

Army lists is already in, I'll add Card Acrivated Games

Cheers

JMcCarroll26 May 2025 10:37 a.m. PST

Specialty Dice. Flat out rip off!

My left sock26 May 2025 10:48 a.m. PST

We never see our own failings do we.

yarkshire gamer26 May 2025 11:19 a.m. PST

My Left Sock,

Your failing seems to be an inability to explain yourself lol

I'm more than happy to admit any failings or discuss failings of others but kind of need a clue what the f your on about !

yarkshire gamer26 May 2025 11:20 a.m. PST

JMcCarroll, that one's in and doing pretty well :-)

My left sock26 May 2025 11:32 a.m. PST

Lol ok

Woolshed Wargamer26 May 2025 11:39 a.m. PST

I voted. I did ponder putting a vote for "Rules Lawyer" but other things annoyed me more. When I have a game, using XYZ rules, unless it is with mates who fiddle with rules to suit our particular gaming style, there is a sort of implicit contract that the two of you will play with the 'rules as written'. Now you can argue interpretations of a rule but that comes down to a negotiation between players.

yarkshire gamer26 May 2025 12:30 p.m. PST

Cheers Woolshed, there's certainly plenty of choice !

Shagnasty Supporting Member of TMP26 May 2025 3:04 p.m. PST

Without question IG/UG movement. All other concerns pale into insignificance.

TimePortal26 May 2025 10:33 p.m. PST

Army lists are fine. They encourage games between balanced forces. HOWEVER, lists should have a cap factor as well. This would limit specialty or super elite formations. Army lists must be done correctly., to be effective. Lists must enhance a game, not overwhelm it.

I'm not on FB, Ken, but I'd choose unfinished ranges, rebasing and overly-competitive players/rules lawyers/cheats if I was.

Was there a "keyboard warrior" on the list (FB insisted I sign in or join before I saw the full list)? You'd know the type- gets abusive if someone dares criticise their favourite period/rules set/figures range/company/game mechanism/paint, or just disagrees with them about anything? That would be my No1 choice, even before re-basing.

yarkshire gamer27 May 2025 2:20 p.m. PST

Cheers Dal, that's been put under "Those who critise but don't Do" proving pretty popular.

Of your first list all are in the top 5 apart from rebasing which people seem to enjoy lol

I'll update the post tomorrow with some mid poll standings. Real shame I haven't found a way of doing this somewhere accessible to all but I've had over 2,500 votes already and I don't see me getting that elsewhere.

Cheers, Ken

Personal logo Dal Gavan Supporting Member of TMP27 May 2025 2:41 p.m. PST

There's people who enjoy rebasing, Ken? huh? Fair enough.

I understand about FB, mate, I'm not complaining- it's my choice not to use it, after all. I agree about the number of responses you'll get and look forward to seeing how it progresses.

Cheers, mate.

Dice Peeves:

Using the dice tray to store the dice, and rolling on the terrain.

Rolling dice out across the gaming surface…. and leaving them there, in the way of everything.

Starting the game with all the right dice, then breaking them up – leaving some out on the table, some in other dice trays, some in other sections of the table – and wasting time before every dice roll trying to get "the right dice" for the shot/check/etc. WHAT DID YOU DO WITH THE LAST HUNDRED DICE I GAVE YOU?

I don't know if any of those deserve to be voted on.

Personal logo Dal Gavan Supporting Member of TMP27 May 2025 7:06 p.m. PST

I don't know if any of those deserve to be voted on.

I'd vote for the first two, YA.

yarkshire gamer27 May 2025 9:54 p.m. PST

Yellow Admiral,

The dice tray thing has been nominated but is pretty low in the voting at present

Cheers Ken

Fat Wally28 May 2025 6:10 a.m. PST

I know they're popular but I hate the look of movement trays.

Here is the voting to date in the Preliminary Round of the Yarkshire Gamer World Cup of Wargaming Pet Hates.

Some clear leaders with Overly Competitive Wargamers, Rules Lawyers and Cheats well out in front of the pack.

But also some surprises, who thought rebasing was popular 😄 and less people despised Fantasy History Cross Over Games than Hex Based Tiles 😆 The qualification race is pretty tight around the 16 cut off point.

A gentle reminder that this is fun, I've seen some "robust conversations"

Poll open till Monday, top 16 go through to Rd1, there is still time to vote (or even change your votes) those topics which have been nominated after the start are often missed by those who vote early, so if you hate one of the newer nominations more than your orginal selection feel free to change.

Voting is on the Yarkshire Gamer Reet Big Wargames Group on Facebook (link in orginal post)

Thanks for posting the current standings, Ken. I'm not surprised by the top three, but I am surprised that they're that far in front.

yarkshire gamer29 May 2025 2:35 p.m. PST

Thanks Dal,

It's been an interesting exercise even at this early stage. Some big votes as you say and a lot of stuff in the middle looking to get in the top 16.

Then the seeds come in and its a straight knock out. They are great fun to run these things. Hopefully everyone realises its simply a bit of fun.

Regards Ken

UPDATE WITH 24 HOURS VOTING LEFT

The voting in the Preliminary Round of the World Cup of Wargames Pet Hates ends tomorrow and here are the latest standings.

Little movement since the last update and as expected voting has dropped off since the initial surge, looks like there will be around 3,000 when it closes tomorrow.

Top six remaining same and we'll ahead, Display Games ignoring the public has been creeping upwards. The excitement is around the cut off point for the Preliminary Round, remember only the top 16 progress.

Currently Basing Tanks and Excessive Game Counters are joint 15th and just in the qualification spots with 45 votes. Primary School Blue Rivers and Tank Parks are the main contenders to knick a spot in Round 1.

Nominations are now closed, there is no chance anything getting anywhere near, there's some good stuff on page 2 and couple with no votes, which is one of my Pet Hates, if you nominate something, I have to type it in, at least you could vote for it FFS 🤣

Anyway this js your 24 hour notice to vote, or change your vote before it closes and the "I can't believe x didn't get through" window opens
