I once played in a 1 or 2mm game of the 1st Anglo-Sudan war. I noticed one of the mass's of Dervishes moving much faster than the others and asked about it only to be told that they were cavalry. I couldn't tell by looking at the figures.

I saw an ad for 1mils back at the dawn of time. That was maybe 40 years ago and never since. I wish now I'd picked some up just for bragging and demonstration. But I do 2mm regularly, and have no trouble telling arms apart playing on a card table. A drastic change in scale takes some getting used to. Or possibly the table was just too big? Despite my vague "2mm Leipzig" ambitions, you want to be within 24" of the castings, just the way it's hard to ID a 15mm game from the other side of a big room.

Or, indeed 28mm figures. I recall some French light cavalry appearing at the far end of the table and being mistaken for British in a skirmish game some years ago when theoretically our eyesight was better. It led to some amusing errors (amusing because I was running, rather than playing, the game).

Advocate, I remember an old wargamer warning me against 20mm figures, as he and his friends had just had to halt a Napoleonics game while they looked for green Rifles in a woods.

He was, then, 30 years younger than I am now.
