Did rebel sepoys use their regimental colours in action against the British and loyal Indian troops? Or did they replace them with native standards; or not use any? Can anyone point to any contemporary reports or references to what may have been practiced by them? |

Without having a source to site at hand, early in the war some units used their colors as before, but the practice faded over time as they wore out or were lost. Evidently, aside from the possible odd homemade banner, it wasn't long before the mutineer units simply didn't use any. TVAG |

Thanks TVAG. I can ditch my sepoy command bases for later war actions or replace them with other standards (or none at all!). Problem solved. |

There are some references to other flags – The "Green" Muslim flag as well as those of "regional" leaders. |

I made a banner by having google translate "I drink your milkshake" into Arabic and printing it out on a triangular pennant. |

I'd like to see a picture of that….. 😀 |

Gave up on Indian Mutiny years ago, but I seem to recall banners with the handprint of the rulers who issued them--an old Indian tradition. Presumably those regional leaders DisasterWargamer mentioned. |
