The interesting part for me was the destruction of buildings after the Romans left for construction materials. Thus civilization declines.

It would appear they probably thought the defenses were no longer necessary— after all, Rome ruled the world! What, those nomads across the Red Sea and that desert peninsula are going to form an army and conquer the region from Roman rule? That'll never happen!

Hadrian's Wall wasn't destroyed by elements or siege either. It was taken apart for building materials over the centuries. Nothing new there.
