Could be more accurate. Maximilian's firing squad had 7 soldiers and an officer, no white straps, should have bayonets. (Photo exists of the firing squad, taken the next day.)

Never-the-less, a great recreation of a memorable part of Mexican history. Nicely done.

I can't help feeling sorry for Max -- he wasn't a bad sort, was he? Just a pawn in the Great Power politics. The Juaristas might have done better to show mercy (a la Lincoln's attitude toward defeated CSA leaders)and quietly arranged for his flight from the country rather than execute him. Was he that much of an ongoing threat in the end?

No, he wasn't a threat. He was executed to make a statement.

A statement of needless brutality.

The Maximilian Adventure is a sad and tragic story but makes for some interesting wargaming.

There aren't many ranges available. I opted for Irregular's 6mm figures and a variant of DBA. Sold them off but I'd love to game it in 10mm of there was a decent range available.

If you want to do it in 28mm, Gringos40 has a fairly comprehensive range.
