it is amazing that folk can still find something new to say about the wars of 200 years ago, when literacy and documentation /record keeping was not to the standard of say ACW. The mistake up to now has been to study English language documents solely, but, with things changing, hopefully we will see a lot more

Historians have been using non-English Language sources for decades. Oman's monumental History of the Peninsular War quoted extensively from French, Spanish and Portuguese sources over a century ago. The issue is more the prevalence of "popular" history in recent years and "popular historians" are predominantly lazy, preferring to rehash existing literature.
