I bought this figure sometime in the mid 70s.
I decided to repaint him, for two reasons.
1. I am a much better painter now then when I was 14.
2. Probably wasn't painted right anyway.

He's about 11cm tall, counting the hat.
Obviously a hussar; pretty sure he is Prussian.
Anybody have any idea which regiment he is from?

One distinction that may not be visible is there are hearts on his thighs. makes me wonder if it is a life guard unit.
(I am not very knowledgeable about Frederick's Prussia)

No idea wht TMP turned him sideways.
It isn't like that on my blog

Good question

The only Prussian cavalry equivalent to a Guard Unit were the Garde de Corps (Kur Reg 13) who were heavy cavalry

The militron limits the hussars units it could be (Hussar Reg 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8) or some of the Frei Hussars (von May, Fürst Lubomirski, von Schony or Schwarze) but I don't know that any of them had hearts on their trousers

Kronoskaf notes that several Prussian hussar regiments originally had hearts on their Schalavary over-trousers which disappeared by the mid-1750s.

See for instance the Wechmar Hussars (no.6) – link

Is there any monogram or device moulded onto the sabretache, Korvessa? If there is then that will help to confirm the nationality (the heart on schalavary wasn't just Prussian) and time period.

As long as eveyone is being so helpful, I have a question about attaching the saber. The sabretache is kind of obvious as it has three strips of metal to attach to three rings.
Is the sword attached to the same rings? – presumably the two on the end. If so, does it go in front or in back of the sabretache?
If not, how does it attach? There's nothing obvious.

That's confirms Freddie's little band of ravagers, mate. Any of those regiments can be done. Frederick's post above detailed the regiments and they're all covered on the SYW Kronoskaf site- as GurKhan shows with his link.

That's a nice figure, mate. 75mm?

PS Everyone seems to do v.Ruesch's mob ("Death's head" regiment). Have a look at link and link .

I believe you're right about the rings, but I don't really know, mate. I looked at the books and artwork I have and there's nothing clearly visible. However, in the majority of illustrations the sabre scabbard is shown as being behind the sabretache.

Looking at the hussar and kürassiere plates online and in the books I have here, I'm fairly certain that the sword was buckled to the belt first, and then the sabretache/pouch (for the KR) was attached and hung over the scabbard, Korvessa.
Stop asking hard questions! :-)

Re-reading your original post the figure would be 90mm, but doesn't come up under Poste Militaire or Almond Sculptures. Can you remember the make? BTW, have you decided which regiment it will be?

Unfortunately, about all I can tell you is I bought it from Viking Hobby in Sacto Calif in about 1977 or so – give or take a year. Cool figure though, ain't it?
Haven't made a final decision yet. I want it to be colorful, so #5, 6 and 8 are out. So that leads #4 & 7. I think #4 might have th ebest combat record, so maybe them?

A very nice figure indeed, mate.

They're much of a muchness as regards their war records, mate. HR Nr 4 saw more action under Fred2, in the big battles against the Austrians. HR Nr 7 was guarding against the Russians (ironically, wearing uniforms that were the colours found on Ukraine's flag today….) and supplied two squadrons to fight the Swedes. After the Swedes were put back in their box the squadrons joined the Allied forces in the west, fighting the French.

Short answer- what uniform do you like best?
