Our club has decided to give Warhammer 40k a try, and I am going to play Tyranids as they look very easy to paint. I had a box of Wargames Atlantic "Harvesters" which looked to make good proxies, and assembling them was a complete Bleeped text Bleeped text Bleeped text Bleeped text show.

My first Tyranids arrived from GW. The instruction booklet is detailed and precise – pointing out even not to cut certain flash looking bits off as they are joints. Everything fits perfectly and frankly tightly enough the glue is probably overkill. No assembly engineering required by the customer.

I will say one thing positive about GW, they do have world class customer service.
The two times I was short a pc on a spure they sent me a full box both times and was sent right away.

Although the look has changed over the years I think you've made the right choice with Tyranids. Nice looking figures.

Mark,

If your friends haven't already dumped the national treasury into buying Games Workshop 40K rule books may I suggest "One Page Rules "Grimdark Future"? I've been told by a GW fan that I know that they're basically Third Edition 40k, and if you want to argue over rules there's only one page of rules that you need to argue over… not the hundreds of pages of overpriced rules that GW offers. wink

Everything's free and online (rules and army lists) so take a look at it, it might save you a ton of cash and you might even have more fun.

Thanks Dave but we have a 40k sherpa. As we're not competitive players it will all probably be fine. We did a stripped down intro game. Basic mechanics are bog simple it's all the army specific stuff that creates trouble.

Have fun!!

I don't do Warhammer 40K, but I've ALWAYS liked the Tyranids.
They are like the creatures in the Aliens films. Very well done. If I was doing a 40K army they would be my first choice.

40k got me into the science fiction gaming…yeah, it's expensive but hobbies are worth it. Enjoy as 40k has a lot of lore, fluff, and seemingly endless possibilities.
