As I'd added some hussar plates to the section of Beyer-Pegau plates in my Uniformenportal I finished today the preparation of all plates referring to the period of 1809 to 1815.

Just go to the following link and study all 61 plates: link

Although the artist Beyer-Pegau hadn't been a contemporary person of the napoleonic period his plates are full of details as he'd access to the collections in the Brunswick castle. So these plates could be rated as "1st class sources" when researching this "black army".

I see the staff get the freedom to wear brightly coloured breeches while everyone else has to stay in all black with just coloured facings.
On a more serious note, the artillery plates show the carriages of the field pieces as black, or at least a very dark grey – is this accurate?

Thank you for taking the time to provide the link to these wonderful uniform plates.

@Billy: I checked the Reitzenstein "Das Geschützwesen un die Artillerie in den Landen Braunschweig und Hannover von 1365 bis auf die Gegenwart", third part, published in 1900. There it is mentioned that the carriages and artillery parts were painted in grey – but no hint whether it was a lighter or a darker grey.
