Vitoria is a fairly popular battle to wargame (judging by folks' previous reports on TMP). I know I'm not the first wargamer to visit the battlefield – how many others must have carried copies of the Osprey book on the battle up the Cerro de Jundiz! – but maybe my report of my own visit will encourage more to visit and may even be helpful. It was certainly worth the trip for me. Blog post about it here:

Looked like a good place for a battle, thanks for posting as I will never get there

I visited the battlefield in mid November 1961; I used a taxi.

What a beautiful place for a battle.

Thanks, chaps, glad you enjoyed a vicarious Vitoria visit.

The Osprey book has a section on wargaming which is quite amusing, given how much the hobby has moved on in the last quarter of a century since it was published. The author basically suggested it wasn't really feasible to wargame the whole battle. Well, it is now!

Thanks from another who will never see the battlefield in the flesh. I like Donald Featherstone's coverage in his "Campaigning With Wellington."

Cheers, Shagnasty, you're welcome. Ah, Don Featherstone. That's one of his I haven't read.
