The second part of the article has now been posted on the Perry website, covering the uniforms of the 1815 contingent. There seems to have been a slight disagreement between the author's German contacts as to whether the NCO rank badges for the artillery and cavalry were silver, like the infantry, or were in gold. Anyone got any thoughts on that?

may have the answer but i cannot find a copy to consult online.

Peter Bunde's plate for the Hussars shows gold for 1815 – see extract (taken from Swedish site):

For artillery, I would guess at gold as pictures show officers & artillerymen for 1815 with gold/yellow trimmings, but could be different as I haven't seen any pictures of artillery NCOs for 1815.

Interestingly Otto von Pivka's "Brunswick Troops 1809-1815" says the NCOs for both Hussars & Uhlans in 1815 had silver chevrons. No indication for Artillery (horse & foot) NCOs.

Thanks, very useful (as always)!

Just to add George F. Nafziger's "Armies of Hannover, Brunswick, Hesse-Cassel & Hanseatic Cities 1792-1815 – Napoleon's German Enemies" says nothing about NCO chevron colouring.

Am checking if my copies of "Zeitschrift fur Heereskunde" have anything to say on this & if I think of anything else to review in my library!
