I spent much of my youth with my Airfix armies. I remember hearing that people actually paint something so small and discounting it as impossible. I would not be surprised if I still have the 5 gallon tin pail containing all my Airfix figures somewhere in my parents' basement?

Due to receding ice and snow in the mountains, we periodically are treated to news reports of WWI gear found after all these years (hey, the occasional newspaper article also provides some inspiration).
