When Anton ran a Mahiwa game for us, I thought it was obscure – but of course, it's not so obscure that Armand hadn't already found someone wargaming it! Here's his Tango link on TMP: TMP link And DeanM's original report on his WAB Corner blog: link Anyway, back to our own game (which didn't produce quite the same 'slugfest of attrition' as the game that Dean reports apparently did). Mahiwa was the biggest battle in the East Africa campaign. It comprised several actions fought over four days. Anton's scenario successfully compressed these into an 8-turn game on a 5'x4' table, producing a really interesting situation where the sandwichers became the sandwichees. A fascinating AAR and clever scenario-design of the battle! Chris, in taking the part of Von Lettow you certainly gave yourself big shoes to fill! |

Cheers, SG. Ha – I'm no von Lettow! But I've been a fan since I was 15. In a way, he's like another of my particular heroes, the French General Chanzy, who conducted a similarly doomed but indomitable fighting withdrawal in the Franco-Prussian War. |
