"I have to go with "The City on the Edge of Forever" (1967). It has it all. There's a compelling and richly drawn story, there's time travel, and I loved the concept of history being changed so much that Spock says the away team had "no future, no past." There's also a vulnerable and ultimately broken Kirk who knowingly lets someone he believes is his soul mate (played exquisitely by Joan Collins) get killed in order to restore history. Who can't help but love this episode and the way it deals with the intricacies of time travel? If you ever get a chance to read Harlan Ellison's original teleplay (available at Amazon) it's worth it…" More here

A Private little war. Where No Man has gone before. Balance of Terror. Errand of mercy. There are several pretty good episodes in TOS. Thanks. John |

There's a few. I, Borg. The voyager fast time planet and the astronaut from lost. When the walls fell. It's difficult, as some are good for certain reasons, like story idea, or visuals, and that's a lot. TNG and voyager has so many awesome story ideas. Mostly because they are the longest episodic series. I view voyager as girls star trek, female captain, fairy and pet dog, even the shape of the saucer is, well. And so on. So it's no surprise that voyager has some of the most emotionally powerful endings. If that's the right term. |

I guess I'm the only one who enjoyed Spock's Brain. I'm always impressed at the guest actors, most with no sci-fi experience, who again and again did such great jobs in their roles. |

I only know the original series well enough to contribute to this discussion. In no particular order, my favorites (top 5, anyway) from the original series are: Balance of Terror The Doomsday Machine Amok Time The Enterprise Incident A Private Little War |

"In a Mirror, Darkly (Enterprise)" Yes, was thinking this. Bad Hoshi… Maybe the CG Gorn kills it? But the opening and opening titles are top notch. There's talk of the final ep a lot, but the main characters were not in many of the final EPs, including this double ep. |

Balance of Terror for me, but Devil in the Dark and The Doomsday Machine are tied for close seconds for me. |
