The U.S. Army is planning a significant update to its iconic M1A2 Abrams tank, guided by General Dynamics' futuristic AbramsX concept. The mission is simple: continue to be the most dominant tank on Earth.

The AbramsX features an unmanned turret, a powerful XM360 120-mm gun, a hybrid engine, and advanced active protection systems, cutting the tank's weight by ten tons.

Three man hull crew. Shades of the old MBT 70….

Yes, many of the new MBTs designs are going to 3 men[or female] crews. No loader, but auto loader. With the fast advancement of high-tech machines/AI replacing humans this seems to be inevitable.

Regardless, the M1 overall is a successful MBT design. And as tech gets better, it will be added to the M1 as a platform.

It NEEDS to have active and passive drone defenses, and it should even have it's own expendable defensive drone swarm -- the modern equivalent of smoke projectors.

This was a prototype unveiled in 2022. It hasn't been officially adopted- the author of the article is both recycling news and making an appeal to select it.

Yes as tech evolves on the battlefield. Measures, Countermeasures, etc. become a standard. So I'm sure the drone situation if being evaluated and a worked on.

Hopefully the drone issue is figured out before the money starts rolling in, hoping for "later updates".

In the advent of the massive use of drones in Ukraine, I'm pretty sure a lot of people are working Anti-Drone tech. Just like when aircraft and AFVs made their debut in WWI. I.e. AAA & AT …

Well hopefully not like LCS mission packages.

Let's hope …

Yeah, but some countries kept on doing biplane designs, thinking mono-wings were too untried and futuristic…
And reality ended up sanctioning all those faults.
