As I age, I'm trimming down my collection of space fleets. While I enjoy space ship gaming, I have been in the process of selling off fleets. Megalomania and all, at one point I had 8 full fleets. I am now down to 2 major fleets (human and bug) and 1 minor (weasels) that will remain in the collection. The last of the extra ships will be going on sale soon. It feels liberating to be free of the unused. A few less boxes for my family to deal with after… |

When we downsized I gave away my books. 60 boxes full. I had been hauling them around for 30 years, having moved 8 or 10 times. I thought I might miss them – just the opposite. Very freeing. |

Same with me for books – gave a cabinet full to the local bookshop gratis, great feeling – plus someone might actually read them! |

Yup, I've gotten rid of so much unpainted figs, books, Ospreys in the past few years. It felt good not seeing so much "stuff" stifling me. Also by selling that stuff I was able to finance 2 vacations to Northern Michigan. Paul |

I too, have given away several lots of still good stuff. Probably reduced my lode by half. I have more that I will be offering here on the Marketplace soon, with leftovers going to eBay |

There's a point at which more stuff isn't just unnecessary but counterproductive. Took me years to clear out (most of) the garage when I retired and had everything under one roof. And there's still stuff I know I have, but can't find. (The search for my 28mm Ren/Fantasy civilians continues today--or tomorrow. I may not be able to face it again today.) Well, serves me right. I was specifically warned about barns, and where to store my treasure. Be nice if I still had a group to give some of it too, though. |

In my downsizing I found myself almost giving away books I previously considered permanent. Then I read one, then another and now they are permanent, so far. But as I decide to buy more books I ponder if they are really needed/desired and then decide not to buy them. I have trimmed down my figures to specific limited periods/scales and stopping the collecting when I ponder any purchases, just like with books. Then I take my dog for a walk and enjoy being with her. Best thing! |

I got rid of an enormous amount of stuff over the past five years. The problems I have are two fold- my rate of acquisition increased over that time so I now have more than when I started, and second, I will gain an interest in something I got rid of and realize, ‘crap, I got rid of that.' I recently retired, however, so hopefully that will take care of the first issue. Don't know what to do about the second. |

I refuse to downsize. When I peg out it is my kid's problem to sort crap out. My son wants all my wargaming stuff and I have listed what RPG stuff is worth what (at current prices) so they can go whoopee with what they make. |

I always find it a cathartic process to shed myself of excess possessions to include wargaming content. It is often hard at first but once I commit to one item or collection, it gets easier. There have been very few regrets although I have re-purchased a few collections. |

I call the book collection on occasion. I have also disposed of unfinished and barely started projects. As mentioned by others, it was very liberating. |

Actually I have modified my short term plans. It looks like I will be bringing a car load of stuff to the flea market at Huzzah! in a few weeks. The attendees will get first crack without any shipping charges happening. Whatever is leftover…. TMP Marketplace and then eBay |
