I'm planning a little sci-fi backdrop to take pictures of painted minis with. I've gathered some computer parts to use in the background. The pieces will go into a small balsa wood box, but I'm not sure what glue I should for the best hold.

Super glue? Hot glue? Other unnamed glue?

Two part epoxy glue.

You could also seal the wood with a waterpoof spray varnish. doing that opens up all sorts of options for glue becuase the wood won't absorb it.

Used superglue for 4 decades gluing metal figures to wood stands. Over 5,000 pieces and only problem mostly is dropping them

Walthers Goo. Walthers is a model railroad company, and I have been using their glue for six decades. My 15mm Napoleonics are still attached to their plexiglass bases, and metal siding material is still attached to wood walls (a building kit). If I needed to remove any of the 15mm figures from the bases, a sharp blade slices through the rubber based glue.

Goo works great with multi-media kits or parts

I use PVA to stick figures to MDF bases and very few have ever had a problem but, if you want a guaranteed strong and permanent hold and you have an adequate area of contact, then 2-part epoxy is the winner hands down.

UHU. The one that comes in a yellow tube.

PVA

Aleene's Flexible Stretchable Fabric Glue. A thin coat between the parts, let it dry, you'll never get it apart…! ;-)

Elmers glue all

Superglue. I've sometimes deliberately broken the bond and found the wood part broke before the glue bond line did.

I've always had good luck with Testor's Household Cement.

E6000 or superglue would work well for that specific application.

"Metal to Wood
If you are gluing small pieces of metal to wood, or small pieces of wood to metal, we recommend:
LePage's Metal Epoxy
J-B Weld
Faststeel Epoxy Putty if you have gaps to fill
If you have a large amount of surface area, we recommend:
LePage's Press-Tite Contact (solvent-based)
LePage's Press-Tite Green Contact Cement
3M Fastbond 30-NF
Clamping can make the difference between success and failure here.
Whenever you are gluing metal it's a good idea to clean it first with steel wool or sandpaper. (Rust never sleeps.)"

I think brands pay to be the listed brand of glue of that type, but the basic type is a still a good suggestion.

The added advice is also good. Also consider sealing the wood but adding "tooth" to both surfaces.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I don't have any epoxy or Uhu, so I think I'll be going with Aleene's and superglue for now.

I'll show some progress pics and report on how the glues hold up.
