Astronomers have announced the detection of a chemical byproduct of life on a known exoplanet— link

Note the part where the detected compound happens to be a byproduct of bacteria in beer

And cue your scenarios for the Battle for the Beer Planet!
Who will your warring factions be?
Why can't they just talk it out over a pint?
What happens if the warriors sip the planetary brew?

(I confess to being a teetotaler, but this discovery amuses me to no end…)

Or what if the planet is covered in oceans of beer?

It's a Bud light planet, not listed in alien brochures.

Factions? Okay, here we go:

The Neue Deutscharmee under General Becks
The Spanish XX (Dos Equis) Armored Division
The New Paris Colonists under General LaBatts
The American Colonists under General Sam Adams

Maybe a sci-fi adaption of "The Private Navy of Sgt. O'Farrell" would be appropriate. The spy ship "Lollipop" takes off from beer planet but has thruster troubles and lands on water planet, where an outpost of humans have been without beer for years…

Well, sort of sounds like the premise for "Space Pigs", a game from 1999. link

Also would include

Alexander Keith's Mooseheads
Molsen's Steamwhistles
Labatt's Flying Monkeys
The Mill Street Irregulars

Probably have to be Canadian to appreciate them!
