Currently I am slogging through Cornwallis's papers (Sept 1780) and have come across a letter from a Provincial Storekeeper. He mentions they have 60 French muskets (which were instructed not to be given to militia) and "Russian Drill Jackets" in a hogshead. What is a "Russian Drill Jacket"? |

Russian drill or drilling is a fabric made of twilled hemp used for clothing, civilian and military. Trousers, breeches, jackets. |

It seems to only mention the fabric. Not the cut or color. 🤷 |

'Russia Drill' produced in a natural off-white colour could also be bleached white. |
