"In recent years, the stigma The stigma is the receptive end of the female reproductive part of a plant associated with eating alone has been increasingly challenged in rich societies. Food-delivery apps, online streaming services and the fast food industry are turning eating alone into a more enjoyable activity. As a result, "primary eating" (eating together with other people) is declining around the world, while "secondary eating" (eating while doing other things) is on the rise. Surveys have shown that almost half of all adult American meals are consumed alone, while one-third of Europeans eat all their meals alone…"

The runaway majority of my meals are consumed alone, normally while watching DVDs.

If I am at work, I eat by myself, at my desk, working. Unless I am on a customer site, in which case we are all somewhat sequestered and eating at the same time.

If SWMBO is not home, I will rarely seek out someone else to eat with.

If I am away from home for work, I will usually find someone else that I want to talk to, and take advantage by inviting them to break bread.

The article doesn't say that. It says "surveys say", which is different, but structured in a pattern of discussion that parallels the citation of studies and (probably deliberately tries to) gives the reader the feeling that they are quoting studies.

I was always taught not to speak with my mouth full "Let yer meat stop yer mouth" so I've never seen the point of communal meals. Either you talk and your food goes cold or you don't and people say you're anti social. Well I'm anti-social, but I'll happily have a chat after I've eaten.

I rarely eat alone because if I'm eating at home my cat nearly always appears and demands to be fed too.

I usually eat breakfast and lunch alone and dinner with my wife. We don't use food delivery apps. We make something to eat, or we go out to a restaurant.
