I have quite a few old lead Hinchliffe AWI cavalry figures charging into battle with brass knuckles.
Who makes swords that I can give them for more confidence?

Essex did.

Try the assault group miniatures, if I remember they do a multitude of separate weapons.

Old glory 25mm English Civil War command and cavalry had separate ones, but I believe you have to buy the pack of figures with it. Don't know if they sell separate or not and it includes the hand with the sword. So you would have to clip the old hand off and drill a small hole in arm to accommodate the pin on the hand.

RSM has them for sure. Front Rank is a maybe

I would cut off the swords down to the hilt and give the figures pin swords.

Cut off the sword at the hilt and drill a hole into it with a pin vise

Take a common sewing pin and smash it flat with a hammer.

Put the pin into the hole, using a tiny ball of green stuff and Crazy Glue

Sometimes I forgo the pounding the pin flat and just stick the sewing pin in the hole. You will catch some of your players unawares and revel in the yelp that they will make when they stab themselves on the tip of the pin. :)

Front rank does and is available now in USA

Jim, my pounding and forging skills have been compared to lightning. We never hit the same place twice. Back when I was a young OFM, I proved that.
I'll check out RSM.

I make mine from 1mm floral wire, easier to squash.

I would follow DAF's approach and drill out the hilts and insert a suitable length of brass rod, flattened or not according to taste and dexterity.

Pins can be a bit painful if encountered unexpectedly. I recall encountering a few cavalry regiments at the old Wargames Holiday Centre near Scarborough with pins for swords and a couple of infantry units where the bayonets had been given the same treatment.
