One of the games played last month at the Devon Wargames Group was a Gaslands interpretation of the childrens late 60's TV cartoon Wacky Races.

I laughed… So hard… Reading each entry…

I, my wife and our sons are huge fans of Formula De' (up to 10 cars racing, so up to 10 players possible). We keep track of drivers and races, with the idea of experienced drivers becoming Ace Drivers, with enough wins, which will allow them fudge points, to rein their cars in, if they roll too high on their movement: each gear rolls a larger die (d4 to d30), but their numbers are not straight up, such that in 6th gear, you have a minimum movement of 15 spaces, all the way up to 30 spaces (d30), and in 1st gear (d4), you get a 1 or 2 spaces result, only.

Your game's cars leaving the track, crashing and burning into concrete walls, and other vehicles, is all too common in our Formula De games. My wife knits, and she was knitting while we played one memorable game: her car drove into a wall, killing her driver, whom we said was "knitting while driving", so her auspicious exit from the track, and the world, was duly noted for all time, in the Formula De history books of our games. We still laugh about Knitting Nancy's auspicious end, mid-race.

I want to up-scale it to Hot Wheels cars, but that is just a fanciful idea, at present. At Hot Wheels scale, a regulation track is around 10 feet by 11 feet in size, and that is unplayable for us, so I need to scale it down, but still allow long enough straight-away's that we can hit 6th gear, Baby! Vroom-vroom! I love the smell of burned rubber at the race track! ROFL! Cheers!

It is good to know my little game struck a chord with gamers of a certain age. Better still it was jolly good fun to play !
