I bought the Hail Caesar epic battles set, and while I generally like it, I find a lot of issues with the Roman Sprue, namely that it does not have enough calvary or Velites. I don't really care for the blocks of infantry either. All the Punic stuff is lovely though. Anyway I would like to purchase calvary and skirmishers which work with the scale of the Warlord Plastics, but I know 10mm and 15mm scales vary so widely, and there are very few 13.5mm models. What do you all suggest for compatibility with the Romans in that set? Thanks! |

Actual Roman cavalry was fielded in small numbers at that time. They got their cavalry from allies such as Gauls and North Africans. That is what the Allied sprues in the box are for on both sides.(Just finishing my coffee so not able to dig into my ooks for details. Enjoy them and keep us posted, please. |

Peter Pig, Naismith, older generation Minifigs would all be a good starting point |

With mine I am basing my calvary on 2 90x55mm bases or 1 90x55mm base for small units with 15 heavy horse or 10 light horse to a base, as i do not think they look very good on the 60x20mm base. I am also basing my Velites on 60x45 so I can spread them out a bit and also put a few more on each base. These things combine to make it so the amount that come in the kit leaves me needing more of both units. The Roman calvary also represent the horse from the alae legions, and with only 2 horse per sprue, i only get enough for like 2 bases of heavy horse and 3 bases of light horse with the kit. Which isn't enough for battles like Trebia where all the Horse was likely Roman on the Roman side. The kit does come with more than enough calvary and skirmishers of every other sort. Thank you for the suggestions, I will check them out! |

If you look at the Boots on the Table YouTube channel he has done some videos comparisons with the epic and other ranges. You'll have to do your own hunting in there YouTube link |

Peter Pig ACW cav mixes with the epic ACW range, for what it is worth. |

You can also go with the 3d printing route. Then you can get whatever you need and scale to the 13.5mm. I did this with the Epic ACW. Plenty of contract printers who will print your files for you as well. Here is an example of 15mm figures that can easily be scaled down to 13.5mm.
An example of a printer selling on Etsy:
|

Unlikely to find any of the modern mainstream metal ranges that fit well with so- called "Epic". The Kallistra 12mm ACW ( which stand about 14mm overall) were not a bad match with the ACW Epic so it might be worth investigating their Ancients, which include Republican Romans as well as Punics, Gauls etc. I have some of their medieval Eastern European figures and they are close in size to my really old vintage 15mm "strip" Minifigs Sassanids. |

Actually 3D printing is the best bet, using a file that has been scaled for "15mm" and then getting the printer to tinker with exactly what the best number would be between 12-15mm to match Epic. Sort of like what you have to do with 28mm files to match GW Warhammer/40k—is it 30mm? Is it 29mm? |
