Folks, In the OoB for Jena-Auerstadt I have has the 14th Kuirassiers in the cavalry brigade of the 1st Division of Brunswick's main army under the Prince of Orange. It identifies this unit as the Garde du Corps. As far as my previous knowledge went the Garde du Corps was the 13th Kuirassiers, who are in the OoB in Kalckreuth's Reserve Corps 1st Division. Is the 14th an error or were there 2 Garde du Corps and if so does anyone have any information on the 'second' unit. |

An older OB I have in my notes, source unknown but Francophone, has the two regiments of cavalry under Orange as the "Cuirassiers de la Garde" and the "Carabiniers de la Garde", which I assume means the Leib Cuirassiers and the Leib Carabiniers. None of my sources indicate a 14th regiment of cuirassiers. |

Only 13 Kuerassier Regiments – not 14. According to an OoB that I can see (Digby-Smith's "The Prussian Army – to 1815" the Leibkarabiniers Nr 12 & Garde du Corps Nr 13 (both with 5 squadrons) were brigaded together under Lt-Colonel Wilhelm Prinz von Preussen, who in turn was under GL Wilhelm Prinz von Oranien. However according to Kling Nr 12 was Bunting & the Leibkarabiniers Nr 11! This also accords with the main text in Digby-Smith's book…. Interestingly Lettow-Vorbeck's "Der Krieg 1806-07 Band 1 – Jena und Auerstadt" has a schematic showing Leibkarabiniers & Leibkurassiers under Prinz Wilhelm. The Garde du Corps are shown as part of 1 Division der Reserve. The Leibkuerrasiers were Nr 3. Based on the schematic it would have been 3rd & 11th regiments. |

Letow Vorbeck – Jena und Auerstaedt, I don't know why the wrong AuerstAdt is in use, Davout was Duc d'Auerstaedt. 13th cuirassiers were Garde du Corps. According to the Stammliste of 1806 – Bünting is Nr. 12, Leib Karabiniers Nr. 11, Leibregiment is Nr. 3 |
