A most unusual contest was the battle of Braga. This pitted Soult's veteran French II Corps against a Portuguese force twice their number but comprised almost entirely of ordonenza levies – like militia but not as good.

This made for a thoroughly absorbing game with a different flavour. Photo-AAR here:

Those games are the best types I reckon. A departure from the usual armies or a line up and fight type combat.

Yes, indeed. I like each game to present a different tactical challenge. There are lots of possible dimensions of difference. Troop quality is one. The infinite possible variety of deployments and arrivals is another.
