Just read an article that a gene company, using a tooth and skulk for DNA, have reproduced three Dire wolf puppies. Amazing times we live in. They are working on a wooly Mammoth.

Jurassic Park, anyone??? Eventually, someone will think that Velociraptors are a good idea, lol.

When I awoke, the Dire Wolf, six hundred pounds of sin,
Was grinning at my window, all I said was come on in…

Grattan – it's A South Korean company that specializes in cloning pet dogs. You lose your pet & get an identical replacement.

Lou, DNA can only be gathered from relatively recently dead specimens eg Ice Age. The 63 million + years from dinosaurs makes Jurassic Park well….fiction.

Oh, I don't know, give them 10 years and they'll be 3-D printing DNA, just need enough partial samples to stitch together a complete strand…

Isn't Horner working on a chickenasaurus ? Going to fool with the regressive genes ?

Because one can, does not mean one should. 🤔

That mosquito in amber, concept from the movies, is a real mind-tripper. As the Mythbusters used to say, "Plausible!"

I agree, the way technology is advancing, it seems like nothing will be impossible in one hundred years. Anyone remember that graph on technology, which showed how it advanced, over time? The curve showed a relatively flat progression, until around the year 1900, then it went pretty much vertical. Let's hope the secret government agencies remove any loose cannon researchers who get too bright of an idea and pursue it…

Just because you are paranoid thinking people are trying to kill you, does not mean that you are wrong… Watch your back!
Cheers!

Every time I read something like this I am happy that I am old. People are happy that we can clone long extinct species and that our computers can now think for themselves. I'm beginning to think that what I thought of as entertainment for my entire life was simply a cautionary tale. I generally see myself as libertarian, I don't want government messing with me, however, some one has to step-up and start to regulate these technological "marvels." I'm with Sgt Slag, hoping for some secret government agency is all over this, however, seeing how governments around the world generally operate, I am certain that we are all doomed. I feel sorry for you youngsters who will have to deal with the fallout.

I saw a tv report on this, it said some genes from Dire Wolf fossils had been spliced onto Grey Wolf DNA, so it means its a
Grey Wolf with some features of the Dire Wolf (Thick white fur etc) and NOT Dire Wolves.

"Hey, let's bring back an ancient, extinct beast!"
"You mean like a mastodon? Or an early horse? Or the Atlas Mountains elephant?"
"No! I'm thinking an apex predator! Something with teeth!"
"Yeah… that's gonna go well."

DeRuyter09 Apr 2025 10:12 a.m. PST

Herkybird has the answer. The DNA was too degraded so all they could sequence were bits and pieces. Enough to splice into a Grey Wolf to produce some Dire Wolf features. Time will tell if they are bigger than a standard Grey Wolf.

Read an article about the process, years ago. They keep splicing in more and more DNA from the original creature, a sort of in-breeding process, which leads to a nearly full DNA creature to the original. This, of course, assumes they have enough of the original creature's DNA to keep upping its contents to reach a pure DNA creature. This was aimed at wooly mammoths, of which we have plenty of DNA.

Back then, they were pushing to create a pure DNA example of a mammoth. That was kind of scary, then, but I have not heard of it since. Here's hoping they failed, miserably. LOL! Cheers!

I think it's awesome if it's true. Would love to see Wooly Mammoths walking around

Yes, the creatures are hybrids.

+1 Herkybird. We don't need the dire wolf brought back.
