Got a reason on is better?

Drop it below.

And where do you feel the movie sits?

It depends on the Dr.

Tennant obviously. And Baker (ah! but which one, hmm?).

Peter Davidson…but not Adric.

Pertwee? Over the top, but on the other hand iconic adversaries. Green Death – the stuff of nightmares like Dr Who was meant to be.

The War Doctor – possibly the best Doctor ever (well, it is John Hurt, 'nuff said!). And The Fugitive Doctor perhaps the biggest surprise in Dr Who history.

I pick….it all…but really not all of it..every Doctor could be good and every doctor could be duff..and not the film. The film was a bit disappointing, apart from the bit with Sylvester McCoy. When he got shot I knew that they really didn't understand Dr Who at all.

Pertwee wasn't over the top.

In fact he was the most normal of the doctors.

A big personally perhaps.

"they really didn't understand Dr Who at all."

Describes all the modern tat.

The early classic just seemed to have more time, at least it looks it on screen.

The actors have time to act and arnt expected to gabble a speel of nonsense every time.

One big problem with the modern tat is it's taking on some element of the doctor being a god, or what not.

Compared to the early classic of a space faring hobo it's quite the contrast.

But shows do this sort of thing, usually feeding on their own popularity and contriving things that don't show them taking them selves seriously.

Often it a person who's a fan of the main characters, like in later SG1 or the X files.

The main characters becoming god like, like SG1 no longer seeing jafa or Gould as a threat in SG1, or the doctor being some god like being or such in doctor who.

They usually do unrealistic or real world episodes too, like the X files episode of cops.

Often it's signs of a show reaching the end, running out of ideas and just feeding on its own popularity.

Classic. Prefer the short story arcs, mining all the top BBC/RSC talent they could rope in for each arc, and the charming low budget costuming and special effects.

Modern completely lost me with the second season's Christmas Special — there's going to be a crap one of these every year?!? In the original 26 seasons, there was only one, "The Feast of Steven" in the middle of a Dalek story arc.

I'll go out on a limb and assume it wasn't just a Christmas special that put you off.

Unfortunately Dr Who has been treated like many franchises in recent years.

Take the most important traits and throw them out.

I think the Doctor was lucky to be left with a blue phone box. Perhaps because the BBC apparently have the patent/rights to it.

Multi episode stories, gone. The Doctor usually being the odd person in an otherwise normal crowd, gone.
Sensible pacing and time for actors to act, gone.
White TARDIS interior, gone.

Chalk and cheese.

I think they recently tried reversing a couple of those, but to little way to late. Besides which what they continue to do overshadows any attempt.

Hopefully they will can it soon, then start it of , ideally from the 7th/movie or otherwise nondescriptley in a decade or two.
