There is a particular pleasure to be had from fighting the same historical battle twice, swapping sides so as to experience the tactical challenge from both sides of the hill.

We managed to do that in 3 hours at the club this week. Our battle was Beaune-la-Rolande (1870), a classic contest of quantity vs quality that provided good entertainment and some food for thought. Photo-AAR here:

This reminds me of when I was in high school and played two simultaneous games of SPI's "WWII", a strategic-level game similar to Avalon Hill's "Third Reich." Since we had two copies, we set up both boards and played on each—switching roles between them. In one game, I commanded the Allies while my friend took the Axis; in the other, we reversed sides.
