"Over the last couple of Monday nights we have refought the Battle of Chaeronea in two very brutal games. This post wont detail the specifics of the battles but suffice to say that the Greeks won the first engagement and the Macedonians the second. These were extremely tight affairs and the results could have gone either way. This is definitely a balanced game…"

I shared this with a friend who put on a Chaeronea game at a local convention last year with about half as many figures and in 20mm scale. He used a different set of rules that also played to a satisfactory conclusion in under 4 hours and looked equally impressive on the table top. It's interesting how the geographical layout of this battle , the terrain, is interpreted differently by everyone, wargamers and historians, along with the order of battle. Our ancient sources are just not entirely adequate or consistent. C'est la guerre! |
