30th March was the annual SOA battleday.
This consists of a large hall with many (10+) games with many rule sets al playing the same battle.
This approach seems unique ?

The battle in question was MALDON.
The Vikings and English meet up near London for a nice even fight.
There were 10mm, 15mm and 25mm battles.

There was also an informed talk by an expert all about the battle.
What great day.
Organised by the SOA committee and Jeremy in particular.

It is open to SOA members and visitors too.

I hope someone with photos comes along and shares with us soon.

Next year is CUNAXA.

Recommended most highly. Try to be there next year.

It was an excellent day out, as Martin says. I was part of the group that put on a DBMM game; we played twice, once to an English victory and the second time to a Viking win. Perhaps we'd balanced the scenario a bit too well this time!

Artaxerxes' brilliant victory at Cunaxa should rank beside Cannae as one of the greatest tactical victories of the pre-modern world.

Our sources for the battle are better than for many, but there is still much reading between the lines needed to understand what is going on.

It's been years since I studied it, I guess there may be some interesting new observations in the academic world. I look forward to next year's reports.

Any game involving the English is bound to be very polite and allow the opponent to win at least one game.

Chance to see some hoplites and Persians in the same army.
A new Peter Pig Persian range?
