From Warlord games It is with great regret that we must announce that co-founder of Warlord Games Paul Sawyer passed away on the evening of 27th March 2025, following a long battle with brain cancer. Paul was a man of enormous character, and he fought tooth and nail to the end, always in good spirits. He was a true friend to us all. That he passed surrounded by the love of his family is a blessing. We offer our sincerest condolences to Paul's family – his wife Julie, his daughters Catherine & Holly, and his granddaughter Aurora-Rose, whom he was fortunate enough to be able to meet before his passing. Paul was not a man to be made a fuss of, he'd perhaps not even thank us for writing this short dedication. We believe it would be his wish that we carry on unabated. We shall strive to continue to shape Warlord Games upon the immensely strong foundations he put in place.
We raise our collective glass to the late, great man. He will be sorely missed.

Paul was the editor of White Dwarf 25+ years ago when I was getting back into wargaming. Made it seem OK to be a middle aged bloke into wargaming. Enjoyed his post GW move into historical gaming which mirrored mine, and the way Warlord made plastic 28mm historicals accessible – very sad to hear the news |

I never met him, but I am sad and upset because in my view he oversaw the golden age of White Dwarf. I still have all of those copies and treasure them. I stopped buying White Dwarf soon after his departure. Thanks Paul for all the joy you gave me, and may you rest in peace. |

As a GW only magazine The Fat Dwarf was the best era in my opinion as well because it was the last time that it was really gamer focused – regular free games, card terrain and the DIY articles to make the models you couldn't afford to buy. And that direction would be down to the editor. |
