It has begun! (I've always liked the color of the CB desert mats – they have a bit of a 'rusty' cast to them) |

I like their rattlesnake ranch mat for desert. And excellent start Tom, can't wait to see more updates! |

Hi, Marc. Wish I had heard your mat recommendation before I ordered mine. I will just have to make mine work. Started "flocking" my bases with fine walnut shell powder over Apple Barrel Kings Gold then sprinkled with random Army Painter Brown Battleground "rocks". The color is close and it must be working as I get thirsty from looking at the bases! 8>) |

Marc (and anyone else buying Cigar Box's desert mat and wants to paint their bases with a matching color), I just returned from Michaels Hobby store and found (in my eyes) and exact match! It is "Craft Smart" Honey Mustard acrylic paint. It comes in a 2 fluid Ounce plastic bottle and perhaps the best part- was only 99 cents! Much more economical than trying to match in more expensive AK, Vallejo, and the like- especially if you plan to match scatter terrain pieces. Hope this helps someone. This discovery came after I posted the pictures above. |
