On a scale of 1 (low) to 10 (high), how much do you like gaming mats made of neoprene (i.e., same material as mouse mats)?

Depends on the usage.

The OGRE board game geomorphic neoprene mats are a perfect 10; lay flat, easy to arrange.

Most miniatures games, I prefer fleece.

Like them for smaller games but for 6x4 or bigger, give me cloth….

Fleece all the way for me. Just received my desert mat from Cigar Box. (My first was years ago for Gettysburg in 6mm.)

Depends upon whether you like putting hills under a cloth mat or on top of a mat. I have found the cloth ones to wrinkle up while playing which doesn't happen with the neoprene. The Cigar Box mats are the nicest looking ones, but I kinda prefer using a neoprene one these days. Let's say an 8.

I would rate them as an 11 or 12 on a 10 scale. Most of my mats are neoprene, great for naval games in particular and most other uses. The figures just slide so easily upon them, They can be expensive but a mat will last for years or decades of play.

A 8, depending on the game type.
For smaller (up to 3' X 3') sci-fi games I think those types of mats are great for spaceship interior decking, factory flooring, and sci-fi city ground. For games out in the wild, historical battles or sci-fi, I prefer cloth

I'd say 8. Excellent for naval and ariel games. Fleece is better for hilly terrain.

There are occasions when I use a neoprene mat under fleece. Keeps it from sliding and adds some 'cushion' for dice and picking troops up

I don't like the big mouse mats.
They are very heavy to carry.
Especially noticeable if you have to use public transport.
