Eastern Front Fans - My gamin' cohort Dave here in St. Lou, hit me up with a series of connected scenarios he wants to put on at our local con in June, using my 3mm WWII minis. I thought his proposed series sounded real cool - "First scenario: A Soviet T-34 Tank Battalion (1944) with supports attacking the German infantry with anti-tank support in the cauldron. Second scenario: A breakthrough mission with a German Panther or Panzer IV Tank Company and Panzer grenadier Company with supports breaking through Soviet lines. A Soviet Inf Battalion with anti-tank support would be appropriate in this case. Finally, the third scenario will be a rearguard mission with a German Tiger Tank Company supported by Panzer grenadier platoons withdrawing under the pressure of numerous Soviet T-34 Tank and Motor Rifle companies. What do you think Dave? Is this something your 3mm Eastern front kit can handle?" Oh yeah it can! :) So needing to upgrade my basing on some of his unit wants for these games, and finished mounting up a Tiger Company this morning – can you feel the steppes rumble……if only in a small way?! ;)

I agree, great looking unit. I like the hex basing system, where did you get them and what are they made of? |

Thank you StoneMtnMinis! The hexes are acrylic ones bought off of ebay (I can give a link if interested – think the source is out of Texas). My 'production-compliant' method of making these pre-textured bases is shown below in the TMP thread – I can make tons of these at a time, and I get consistent results. The "hard-core" acrylic hex is the sandwiched material as shown in the demo picture linked (seen as the left-side method), and it also serves as the hard cutting guide - TMP link Of the hobby methods I've come up with, this is one of my best I think! Btw, the hex-mounting also has rules-based functionality. |

yes, if you have the link handy I am interested in them. I went to your thread you linked, but couldn't get any of the photos to load. I will keep trying. |

Darn, I'll see if I can repost/host the how-to pic here. Here's the acrylic supplier's company website for – "ZLazr" (I get an anti-virus program warning, but it's legit) - zlazr.com (under Shop Now>Acrylic SHAPES – Squares, Hearts. Ovals, Etc.) Vendor site on Ebay - auction Easy texture basing pic…. XX – fingers crossed. ;)

The photos came through, thanks for reposting. BTW, I always find your posts interesting and, in many cases, helpful. Thanks again Dave |

Thanks Dave! If you give this a go, there's some excellent Fiskars scissors out now that help keep adhesive-backed materials from sticking to the scissor blades - Fiskars 154130-1008 NON-STICK TITANIUM 8" Scissors (they have something like a Teflon coating on them, that works great for cutting this type of stuff) From one Dave to another. |
