I seriously doubt such an offer would be given any consideration. However, should the President make affirmative moves toward commonwealth membership, the MAGA movement will abandon him. I don't believe he will seriously consider doing obeisance to the loathsome and inbred monarchy we cut ties with in 1776. No king but Jesus! |

I don't believe he will seriously consider doing obeisance to the loathsome and inbred monarchy we cut ties with in 1776 It must be remembered from history that we had a constitutional monarchy from the accession of William and Mary in 1689. This robbed the monarchy of any real power. It was the Tories who promoted and supported the war against the 13 states…The Whigs generally were against it. |

I don't think the the current administration would meet the requirements for admission. |

"loathsome & inbred monarchy" – bit offensive there, Old Sport. They're not loathsome (pause for laughter). We *would* have to change some of your institutions. You can keep the Stripes but we'd need to replace the Stars with a canton of the Union Jack. At any rate, this "suggestion" is either comedy or insanity. I'll leave it to others to decide what the motivation is. |

It may be worth pointing out that Commonwealth membership these days does not require accepting the British monarch as head of state – plenty of Commonwealth members are republics. Mozambique isn't even an ex-colony (well, not an ex-British colony). |

My dear old granddad was a sergeant in the 6th Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line. Another ancestor signed the Declaration of Independence. Still a third died at Kings Mountain. I'll vote no. |

Americans would have to start putting a "u" in many of their word vocabulary such as colour, neighbourhood, etc. |

It's a great idea – though not for all the continental states. We'll cherry-pick the nice ones: Maine Vermont New Hants Maryland Delaware Illinois Washington (State) Colorado California Las Vegas Hawaii Puerto Rico Costa Rica Maybe Tejas too (nice hats!) |

John, graciously put. However, I think if such an eventuality happened your Lord & Master would accept with unholy haste. He seems besotted by the Royal Family. However, never fear. I doubt 'Oor Cherlie' would offer membership in "The Club". Standards and all that type of thing. |

I am honored by the invitation, but I feel I must decline. I think it was just another keep-them-distracted sound bite. Besides, I can't see Americans giving up baseball for cricket (I'm a fan of neither), nor adopting a football codet where play doesn't stop for a harangue and group hug every 30 seconds. If they're serious, though, the possibility of having to watch Cross-Country Ballet- I mean Aussie Rules- should scare them off. |

Trumps thinking was more of the senor partner for the US. So maybe Brits should learn how to drink coffee (Hint: the time is in the mornings, not late afternoon) Thinking cookies, not biscuits. Repeat after me… God save the Trump! Ok I think I have pissed enough people off. |

@JMacCarroll "senior partner". Are you referring to Trump's advancing years? I know he's very, very old but that's a bit rude. @ John There was a book supposedly revealing all sorts of negative things HM thought about Trump. She may well thought him boorish but IMO you'd never know as she (as is Charles) was a consummate diplomat & didn't, for example, scream at foreign Heads of State she'd have a meeting with. |
Dal Gavan | 26 Mar 2025 4:54 p.m. PST |
As I recall, Her Majesty thought that The Donald was a boor. HM would never be so crass as to tell anyone her opinion of another world leader (her immediate family possibly excepted). So that's probably just another journo' "adding colour". Lies, damned lies, statisticians and journalists. (With apologies to Disraeli, or whoever invented it.) |

Most of those Stoppage we in the South had rather have nothing to do with. In fact I rather guess any cars with tags from them will be stopped in any town they pass. Texas has long bragged, even before I lived there in the 1970s, that they were the only State to produce everything needed.so everybody stay out was their hint to me. In the South we already drink as much, cold sweet tea than coffee. I have never drank a single cup of coffee. |

For Info: The Royal Family has been incredibly diplomatic with foreigners since at least Victorian times. It benefits no-one to be rude and insulting. Queen Elizabeth II was the best diplomat we had! She was a Christian and definitely followed the tenets of Romans 20:14-21; Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head." Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. |
