I thgought I would try making my own a figure, i know you can make scenery, but figures i thought was not possible, i watched a few youtubes, but there busy explaing anatomy and how to fill out skeleten, and proper way to paint, and they took so long i thought yes thats ok if your a modeler, but im a gamer first, so i tried the fastest possible figure i could make.
I used NO paint.
I did a simple armature with 18 guage wire, nice and bendy but strong enough, the youtubers say stronger wire but that takes time and considerable effort to bend wire, 18 guage is still hard but its more plyable and much easier and faster, and after i finished it made no difference to model , because after you oven bake the clay its strong on its own
i used super sculpy polymer clay, i found if i put it on a high temp, the clay burns slightly and comes out completely black, so no primer coat need.
i used fur to cover the model, then put glue on the fur to flatten it and make it solid, its shiny in photo, but in real life you cant tell.
i also put fur on base i put wet wipe and kithchen sponge on body aswell. i used 20 guage wire for spear, the wire is very strong, so its well suited to weapons. i used a hot glue gun, from amazon, you can get one for a few pound, so i did not have to wait for glue to dry thewire armature took 5-10 mins, then i slaped clay on 5 mins, then did a bit of art on clay 5 mins, then baked 18 mins on 24o. waited 5 mins to cool. stuch fur on 5 mins, then wetwipe and tidied 5 mins, broke a piece of mdf i had, glued it and added fur 5 mins. the whole figure was done in an hour, but the photos just dont look as good as what im seeing in real life. i can now make terrain and figures, this is great

I made a couple of Treants (LotR/D&D) using a wire armature, and Hot Glue. I think they turned out OK, but I need to dry brush them to bring out some of their texture; I also need to apply some lichen to create foliage up top. Hot Glue can be used by itself, to sculpt figures. There is a YouTuber who made some D&D Water and Fire Elementals with just Hot Glue: cut/carved, and glued together to make the creatures. It is not bad, once painted. Not bad at all, really. There is a genuine satisfaction in sculpting/making your own terrain and figures, that goes beyond just buying them, then painting them. For me, it hearkens back to the early days of the hobby of wargaming. We can still experience it the way people did, 60 years ago. Thanks for sharing. Cheers! |

this is why its great to post on here, every now and then someone tells you something very relavent to what your doing, and calving with hot glue is one of the most interesting things i ever heard of, im so going to be doing that, thankyou so much for this snippet of gaming magic |

I Think I have a NEW Metthod of sculpting, from HOT GLUE, it does not stick to grease proof baking paper, so I thought cut moults into xps foam, line the moulds with baking paper, fill with hot glue, then stick pieces together. you can create clay moulds or use plastic shaped bottletops etc. I seen someone sculpt out of hotglue on youtube but they were basic and did not think to use moulds, and were very hard to control the sculpt, so i thought about it, and i think i have come up with this. you could press shapes of actual figures into clay or xps foam. its not goint to have detail because its lined with baking paper but you can add detaik, so hope you like this idea and give it a try? let me know |
