Great Cavalry Western from Sam Peckinpah. Great lengthy battle at the end.

Tom Tryon and Harve Presnell in the leads.

Might have seen it on the telly decades ago, but that was before I learned "Peckinpah" wasn't a dog's foot condition.

Probably need to give it another go….

Full movie in good quality is posted on You Tube – nice supporting cast – James Caan, Slim Pickens, Andrew Duggin, Wayne Rogers etc. Clarification – Peckinpah was the writer, not the director of this movie. Major Dundee came out in 1965 as well.

Just watched it. Pretty good take on Custer and the Little Big Horn. And yes, Senta Berger! :)

Actually, I thought it did a better job of telling the LBH than many of the movies that claim to be doing that battle.

"Sucha Burger!"

That's what we all called her, back in the day.

Talk about "Strudel und Schlag!"

Those Austrians have real way with pastry….

I agree with Garryowen.GG has the best portrayal of Reno's attack, skirmish line fight and retreat of any movie I've seen (although it does omit the brief retreat to/stand in the wooded area). And all withpyt ever claiming to br Custer and the Seventh.

I thought they got the feel of the thing somewhat right. But the battle scenes were pretty poor. I didn't think much of anything battle wise was accurate at all.

EDIT. Oops! I watched Custer of the West after this and was referencing those battles. This one was decent.

Thanks.
