I'm no expert, but I found it useful, and a decent read.

Not read, but £3.90 GBP cheaper on Amazon but in the light of the shenanigans on the otherside of the pond you might decide you have no wish to support the billionaire owner.

That's the wonder of modern western civilisation, you can now choose which billionaire owner you get to support.

Got it, read it, but what are you looking to get from it. It would help immensely if you could say what you were hoping to find in it other than an account of the action.

The author has done some interesting research into the make-up of the French army at Waterloo, concentrating on the individual records of all members of d'Erlon's corps. So far so good as this is interesting even if it just confirms what many of us probably already knew. However, his account of d'Erlon's attack brings little new to the table, based as it is on recently published, widely available primary sources. I found Pierre de Wit's recent interpretation (in his 6th volume of 'The Campaign of 1815') more original and which better challenges the 'standard' accounts of the attack.

How many battalions does the author list for the 54th line infantry regiment?

Thanks @delort – that's really helpful. @BillyNM – you make a good point. I've read a lot about Waterlooo so I suppose I was looking for a combination of new depth and possibly some new ideas about what happened.

I'll take a look at Peirre de Wits

I have thought about getting the book, because I love (d) Waterloo and have most of the recent books on it.
It iq quite expensive, so unless there i something new in it, it may be better to buy some more of Pierre De Witts book.

I think that was what the OP was asking. Ie is is just based on recent books

Allen,

An excellent question, how many battalions does the 54th line have?
Answer page 11 – "Each line infantry regiment comprised two battalions of around 500 men – the 'war battalions' -with three for the 13e Legere."
Well, Well, Well.
