Should I be using larger or smaller heater shields for Barons War and War of Scottish Independence? I did a bunch of research years back that I cannot find. I seem to recall smaller. LARGER link
or SMALLER link |

I usually go smaller for knights and men at arms, and larger for infantry. |

Early 13th century English images mostly show large shields. e.g. Satues on Wells Cathedral, the Rochester Bestiary, Effigy of William Longespée, Earl of Salisbury (d.1226), in Salisbury Cathedral, Wiltshire, England, c.1230-40. Small heaters become more common latter in the century, e.g. the Douce Apocalypse, England, c. 1265-70, but, a larger shield is still shown at the end of the century: Effigy of Robert de Roos (d.1227), in Temple Church, London, England, late 13th/early 14th centuries of a knight who died earlier.

I'd go smaller for mounted, larger for foot (large would be too bulky to carry on a horse… ;-) |
