link Since about 1963 when I got my first Roco Minitanks and Airfix figures I have mixed the HO scale Roco and the OO, later 1/72nd scale plastic figures. Although the figures are a bit larger than the proper scale for the vehicles, I think it provides a heroic nature to the figures and gives us a reminder that it is men and not machines that fight wars. Here is a notional Tiger II that has been upgraded to a narrow turret and a new gun. Had the war continued there were several plans to upgrade or replace most of the German armor over the next year or two. Happily the war ended and such plans were never realized. Wouldn't a narrower turret make it more difficult for the crew to operate the man gun? Did they have some work around for this? Grelber |

Only the front aspect of the turret was narrower. The rear was about the original size, so operation of the gun was not a problem. By having a narrow front and a wide back it created a slope on the sides that when hit from the front would usually not be penetrated. Not unlike the design used for the M60A1 post war American tanks. Thanks for reading. Mike |
