Have been enjoying PBI but I am not sure I have been using all the modifiers for assaults correctly. The modifiers include: +2 foot base is carry out short assault. (ie started from adjacent square) is this +2 for each base or one time? It appears to be per attacking base but that makes it powerful. While I am asking questions, when it says defender can re roll does that mean all dice or just selected dice? Thanks Joe |

Assaults are not hand to hand, just "in close" with maximum violence. Each base gets a start of 3D6. Modifiers apply to each base too. A square in PBI is 60m. e.g. 3 bases assaulting a building. Start at 3D6 per base, short assault +2D6 per base., assaulting a building =-1 per base. Total= (3+2-1) x 3 bases= 12D6. Each 6 = a dead. Expected 2 dead. 2 bases defending/target. One base has an SMG. 3D6 per base + 1 D6 for the base with the SMG. Total 7D6. expected 1 Dead. Target rolls first and can re-roll if he wishes. Then assaulter rolls and can re-roll if he wishes. Rolling first is a disadvantage. This is because more kills = win . Win = more potential damage and punch back. PBI makes players take decisions continuously. In an assault the needed scores of 6 are deliberately erratic. Assaults might go either way. Hope that helps(?)

The modifier chart on page 115 states "modifier per base". Thus each base that a modifier applies to gets the positive or negative number of dice added/removed to its base number. When you consider that only 6's will count I don't think this will over power one side. OTOH, PBI assumes that assaults are supposed to be very deadly. Re-rolls: If you choose to re-roll dice you re-roll all the dice. The videos show that all dice are re-rolled when they choose to do so. This can be a big decision for the player to make…accept the initial roll or take a chance and re-roll them all. |

I had no idea about the PP videos! I've got a few of the rulesets, and because I've only ever played them solo, chances are I've made a few mistakes. I've got some watching to do. |

Martin, does the new PBI still use 4' square playing area? And do you know of any suppliers that sell appropriate mats, gridded or not? |

Thank you all for the clarification. I have been playing it correct and understand the theory behind it. It does help to be reminded that it is close in fighting not just hand to hand. Bob, what confused me is that reason is the only one that doesn't have "per base" in the notes. Shardik, I got my mats from Monday knights but there are plenty that are fancier like terrain guy. Thanks again! Joe |

I usually buy 6x4 mats and chop off the extra. I have 10 mats now. they are from various makers both past and present. I mark the corners of squares with dots and don't bother with drawing a grid. A much enjoyed game. martin |
